Anne & Peter King
DPI is one of a very small number of businesses to have been awarded the Community Mark. This is awarded to businesses achieving the highest standards of work within the business, and for the community.
The company is run by Anne and Peter King. Anne and Peter have both been teachers, and have run a yearbook business for the past 15 years.
Anne started working life as librarian, moved on to working with various government departments, took time out to do an MSc degree in Organizational Analysis and Development at Bath University Business School, and then started her own business.
She has a keen interest in enterprise and small business. She is on the Federation of Small Businesses National Forum on Education, Skills and Business Support, and represented FSB on the SW Regional Skills Partnership Board. Anne is a panel member for the Prince’s Trust, and has been involved with Young Enterprise and Business Dynamics.
Peter had to leave school at 16 when his father died. He worked as a labourer in what was then the Surrey Docks in London. He studied in the evenings and worked his way up the career and academic ladder, getting an HNC in Business Studies and becoming Chief Buyer with Philips by the time he was 27.
After fulfilling a long-held ambition to go to university, Peter got his MSc in Business Policy from Bath and subsequently started his own business. He has a strong belief in building links between small businesses and schools, and was co-founder of the first Education Business Partnership in the South of England. He is still a Director of that EBP, and works with FSB to promote understanding of the importance of the small business sector. Peter has also been involved with Business Dynamics and Young Enterprise.
Peter and Anne are currently working with the Chamber of Commerce in South Wales to build links between businesses and education and facilitate employer engagement with schools and colleges.
Anne and Peter have one son (who has also just got his MSc). They live in the Forest of Dean with amazing view over the Wye Valley to the Welsh mountains.
